REGATTA AT AKAROA
~ + NAVAL SLOOI 3 IN COMPETITION Ideal weather and perfect rowing conditions prevailed at Akaroa for the regatta which took place between H.M.S. Leith and H.M.S. Wellington. Akaroa Harbour and surroundings were looking their best. Many close contests, which were watched by the officers and crews of ships, were seen, and it was ne* until the last race that the result was certain. H.M.S. Leith won by 81 points to 74. In most' of the races there were entries of two from each ship. The course was one mile for some races and half a mile for the others. The Mayor of Akaroa. Mr F. R. E. Davis, the town clerk, Mr P. G. Riches, and the harbourmaster, Mr E. E. Eves, were guests of Captain O. Bevir. of H. Leith, at luncheon, and watched the races during the afternoon. The regatta began'at 9 a.m. and continued all day, the weather being beautifully warm and sunny, The following are the results:— Petty Officers’ Skiff—Wellington 1 and 2, Leith 3 and 4. Seamen’s Whalers—Leith 1 and 2, Wellington 3 and 4. Stokers’ Skiffs—Wellington 1 and 3, Leith 2 and 4. Miscellaneous Whalers—Leith 1, Wellington 2. Open Sculls (4)— Wellington I and 3, Leith 2 and 4. Officers’ Whalers (2)— Wellington 1, Leith 2. Seamen’s Skiffs (4)—Leith 1 and 2, Wellington 3 and 4. Stokers’ Whalers (4)— Wellington 1 and 4, Leith 2 and 3. Seamen's Sculls (4)— Wellington 1 and 2, Leith 3 and 4. Petty officers’ Whalers (2)— Wellington I, Leith 2. Open Whalers—Leith 1 and 3, Wellington 2 and 4. C.P.O. and E.R.A.’s Skiffs (2)—Leith 1, Wellington 2. All-comers’ Whalers (4)—Leith 1 and 3, Wellington 2 and 4. .
