COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES

To celebrate . the" coming-of-age of their club captain. Miss Aileen Jack, members of the Old Girls’ Basketball Club, Cust, were hostesses at a social held in the Oddfellows’ HallSongs by Mrs Richardson , and a recitation by Miss P. Smith were ruucn appreciated. * Monte - Carlo one " st ?? s were won by Miss A. Jack and Mr Smith, Miss M. Jackson and Mr K. Harm. Mrs C. Judson, on behalf of the club, presented the guest of honour with a bedroom clock. Music for dancing was played by Misses A, Wayland and Joyce Smith and Mr C. Lindsay was master of ceremonies. DANCE AT AKAROA

A dance, organised by members of the Akaroa Bowling - Club, was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall in honour of the ships’ companies of H.M.S. Leith and H.M.S, Wellington. Captain O. Bevis, of H.M.S, Leith, and Commander J. E. Hall, of H.M.S. Wellington, several of their officers, and a number of the company of each sloop were present. Music for dancing was provided by Tikao’s orchestra, and Misses Elsie Keegan and Olive Kingston played extras. Mr W. Brown was master of ceremonies. GIFT PARTY To honour Miss A. Wayland, whose marriage will take place shortly, the congregational members of St David’s Presbyterian Church, Gust, held a “china” and “linen” gift party in the Oddfellows’ Hall, A pleasant time was spent in games, community singing, and dancing, a competition being won by Mr A, Dewar. Songs were sung by Mrs C. Briggtf and Miss Jean Lindsay, and a recitation was given by Mrs R. Bradley. During the evening the Rev, N. H.
