NEIGHBOUR CHARGER WITH MURDER
(PKJ3SS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, February 23. A tragedy occurred at Waitepeka, a farming district near Balclutha, on Saturday, when William Beatty, a farmer, aged 68, died after a blow, allegedly struck during a quarrel, by a neighbouring farmer, Hugh Urquhart Neil Gunn, a single man,' aged 28. Beatty, who was partly crippled, was admitted to the Balclutha Hospital on Saturday night unconscious, apparently suffering from a severe fracture of the skull. He did not regain consciousness, and died about 5 a.m. to-day. Police investigations indicate that about 8 p.m. on Saturday a dispute arose on Beatty's farm over an alleged trespass by Gunn on Beatty's property. It is stated that during the dispute Beatty was struck on the head by a heavy manuka stick, and was felled.- He was conveyed to hospital. Gunn was later arrested on a charge of committing an assault causing bodily harm. On the death of Beatty, he was charged with murder. '
