BUDGET SURPLUS
OPTIMISTIC FORECASTS IN BRITAIN LARGE SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS.) (Received February 23, 7.33 p.m.), RUGBY, February 21. The newspapers are beginning to speculate on the outcome of the financial year, which has only six weeks to run. In spite of the supplementary estimates amounting to more than £20,000,000, it is generally believed that a budget surplus of several millions is assured.
This will have _ been achieved partly by revenue rather in excess of the estimates, and partly by saving on the estimated expenditure. Account is taken in these optimistic forecasts of a number of supplementary estimates yet to« be published, amounting to several millions. The largest will be for the Post Office lists.
