GERALDINE Ten poinil of rain were recorded by Mr B. R. Matfffbrfald, "Waitui," for the 24 hours ended on Saturday at 9 a.m., bringing the toial for the month to date to 7,65 inches. , Warm conditions were experienced for the'week-end, and farmers report fairjfcjjr; serious sprouting in the and #at crops. . '*<J§ \ ?Fire Brigade Demonstration There is 'every, probability that the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades ■Association demonstration will be held in Geraldine on Easter' Saturday, 'Mr C. C. Knight, captain of the Geraldine Fire Brigade, told a representative of "The "Press" on his return from Chjilfltchurch yesterday. ' ' Mr Knight said there were several matters to discuss yet, .ineludiq*-ac-commodation, ' However, if the roffers already received were any indication the response in this direction should be satisfactory. He said that a demonstration of this kind would, be of benefit to Geraldine as it would attract, a large number of visitors to the town on Easter Saturday. The new date, Easter Saturday, will nOt interfere with the annual cricket match with Luttrell's team, which is played every Easter Monday. All Sport Postponed All sport in the Geraldine district was postponed on Saturday becauseof the condition of the playing fields. The picnic which had been arranged by the Geraldine branch of the Women s Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, was also abandoned because of the weather.

Toe H Hall Improvements A number of improvements have been carried out at the Toe H Hall in Lower Talbot street, recently, in* eluding the repainting of the hall and the formation of garden plots. The work has greatly improved the appearance of that portion of the town. Fire Siren Test To-night

A new electric fire siren which has "been obtained by the Geraldine Fire Brigade on trial, will be tested this evening at 7 o'clock. The siren will be erected at the fire station to-day, and it is claimed that it should be heard for a distance of two miles. It has been suggested that the present central bell should replace the present northerid bell, and that the siren should be used as a central alarm. • Car on Fire

A three-seater car, owned by Mrs G. Loach, of Geraldine, was noticed -by passers-by to be on fire on Friday evening in Wilson street.
