PICTURES ON ANZAC DAY
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—Please allow me a little space to . answer "Mother of a Fallen Anzac" and to cheer on "Sensible/' Now it would be very interesting to know just how many mothers and other relatives of fallen soldiers really relish the idea of having their sad loss dragged up and forced upon them year after year. How many of our fallen soldiers would wish us to carry on a dull and mournful existence to commemorate the sad occasion? . I must agree with "Sensible" as regards pictures on Anzac Day. If the public want pictures they will, go if the shows are open, returned soldiers among them, and it is about time such hypocrisy as is carried on on these occasions, "which should be so solemn were they genuine," was erased forOne has only to see the flaunting of medals and hear at the same time the general conversation carried on as the parade files past to be absolutely disgusted with those who go only for pomp and show. I say if we cannot carry out a sacred service for c UC h an. occasion without so much show then let us at least allow the dead 'soldiers to sleep in sacred peace. —Yours, etc., . ' „ nr ,„ J. T. GOSS. February 20, 1936. TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,—l was always under the impression that a country, city, or sensible business organisation was ruled by a majority and not by the dictates' of a few. Let us get this question settled in a proper manner, i.e., by a plebiscite of the people. This method settles all squabbles—Yours, etc., LET US BE SANE. February 20, 1936.
