LODGE MEETING

At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Kaia-Tpa Lodge, Sister Z. Olasr son presided over a good attendee. Arrangements were completed for the annual moonlight picnic. At the conclusion of the business a social hour was spent, the entertainment being provided by the officers of the lodge. riarboiir light Theatre

"Manhattan Moon," a brilliant musical comedy-romance, starring Bicardo Cortez and Dorothy Page, is the chief attraction at the Harbour Light Theatre this evening. Dorothy Page, jxreH known as a radio singer, introduces several new songs in this production. The short subjects include'a comedy, a cartoon, and a Graham McNamee Newsreel. •• t Sanders Cup Contest The Canterbury crew, winners of the recent Sanders Cup contest at Auckland, will return to Lyttelton this morning, and will be given a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr F. E. Sutton, in front of the Council Chambers at 7.30 this evening. Sailing The following entries have been received for the sailing race for 18-foot boats to be sailed on Sunday afternoon:—Materere (C. Banks), Malay (I. Treleavan),' Snark (P. Rhine!), Hakari (I. Newton), and Marlene (F. Morrison).

This was principally through the organising work of ah energetic committee, composed of members of the i£ hd ?i comrnittee and representatives of the trades section. A full programme of sports and several novelty items were included in the day's programme; and music was provided and announcements made by a loud-speaker outfit. A free altitude estimating competition of one of the Canterbury Aero Club's machines flown by Mr A. K. Mutton, of Ly«elton, provided the air-minded *s? an „, opportunity of showing their skill. The manoeuvres of several Air Force aeroplanes and the departure of the south-bound and the arrival of the northbound Union Airways aeroplanes also provided interest for the picnickers. With the exception of a shower of raih, which caused apprehension for about 20 minutes, the weather was ideal. The attendance was 500.
