BRITISH POPULATION STATISTICS
LOWER RATE OF INCREASE MORE MALE BABIES THAN FEMALES (Received September 13, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 12. The Registrar-General's- statistics for the third quarter of 1935 show that births, 551 fewer than in the same quarter of 1934, totalled 155,962. Deaths increased by 2913 compared with 1934, and the excess of births was 34,042, compared with 37,506 in the third quarter of 1934. The excess of male over female births continues. The "Daily Mail" says the continuance of the decline in population raises serious political and Imperial problems. The only hopeful feature of the report is the sudden in male babies, in view of the enormous surplus of women in Britain. '
