REPORT OF CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION

SUCCESSFUL .YEAR REVIEWED

Another satisfactory year is announced in the report of the Canterbury. Rowing Association to be presented to.the annual meeting of the association to be held m the Canterbury Rowing Club's boathouse on Tuesday, September 24. The financial report showed that the year had opened with a credit of £l7 IBs lid, and had finished with a credit of £1 9s 6d. "Thanks to the activities of a small sub-committee and several donations, we are able to pay our way," states the report, "but finances are a cause of great anxiety to the executive

Opportunitv is taken for congratulate ing the Christchurch Regatta Club on holding a successful regatta at Redcliffs free of cost An invitation was extended to suburban clubs for an afternoon's racing on the Avon, and many clubs availed themselves of this. "The head of the river competition resulted in a win for Union, and the D.C.L. Cup, which is awarded 'to the club gaining the most points at regattas held in Canterbury, resulted to a tie between Canterbury and Akaroa, each club gaining 84 points. "For the first time in the history of tne association, inter-club eight-oar races were held, and these proved very successful, resulting in a win for the Avon Club.

"The interprovincial eight-oar championship was this year held at Dunedin. An innovation was established when the Akaroa Club was invited to supply the coach and crew for this event The boat was unfortunately swamped soon after the start of the race.
