The exhibition of photographs, the work of members of the Christehurca Photographic Society, in the lounge of. the D.1.C., is a pleasing sign of th» interest being taken in the art iai Christchurch. This is the first exhibt* tion that the society has held, and tb* high standard of the work makes it very desirable that it should be aa annual event Some of the work shown is well up to the standard o? the photographs included in the repre* sentatiye selections that are published annually overseas. t The exhibition, In which there ar« 96 photographs, includes landscapes, architectural studies, still life. an£ portraits. Various techniques in the finishing of prints are shown, and th« results merit very careful studyi Photography during the last 30 year* has won a high position among th« arts, until now it can offer a chafleng* to work in other media which hav* a longer tradition.
