GREYMOUTH ARBITRATION COURT (OTXCUI, *0 MM gRESS.I GREYMOUTH, June 21. The sitting of the Arbitration Court was continued yesterday before Mr Justice Page and Messrs W. Cecil Prime (employers' assessor) and A. L. Monteith (employees' assessor). In the case of George Wallwork, of Greymouth, labourer, against the Greymouth Borough Council, a claim for compensation for the loss of a right eye, decision was reserved. Mr T. F. Brosnan represented plaintiff and Mr J. W. Hannan the Borough Council. When the case of Eleanor Pattinson (Mr Brosnan) v. John Forrest, Frank O'Neill, William Hillhouse, John Guy, and Gordon Manderson, trading as the New Point Elizabeth Co-opera-tive Coal Mining Party (Mr J. W. Hannan) was called, Mr Brosnan announced that the case had been '%ttled out of court. The claim was for a lump sum of £IOOO for death. On Mr Brosnan's application the case was adjourned until next sitting to enable payment to be made. Golf A Ladies' Golf Union medal match, played at Kaiata by the Greymouth Ladies' Club, was won by Miss N. Tennent, whose score was 93—9—84. Mill Worker Hurt An employee of Ogilvie's sawmill, Gladstone siding, Peter Patterson, aged 21 years, injured his foot while working with an axe at the mill. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital, and is progressing satisfactorily. Presentation Next week a presentation of a wallet of notes is to be made to the former Mayor of Greymouth, Mr J. W. Greenslade, in recognition of his public services. A public meeting will be convened in the council chambers by the Mayor (Mr W. Meldrum). Advantage will be taken of the occasion to unveil an enlarged photograph of Mr Greenslade, which will be hung in the council chamber. Hockey The following team has been selected to represent the West Coast against the All-India hockey team next Wednesday:— Goal—C. Smith. Full-backs—Lamberton and W. Smith Halves—A. Vaughan, H, E. Ferrin (captain), and F. GrenfelL Forwards—J. Devonport, W. Heaton, S. Fleming, M. Morgan, and G. Stapleton. . Emergencies—J. Sloss and F. Higgins (backs). L. Sequin and J. Weir (forwards). Rifle Shooting In the Grey Miniature Rifle Club's final competition for F. Garth's trophy L. Chapman, A. E. Rawlins, P. Thomson, C. Richardson, and M. Garth tied with 210, and will shoot oil next week, and G Smith and J. Walter with a shoot to go want a possible each to be in the shoot-off also. R. Simmers, J. Morgan, and A. E. Rawlins tied for the hotty button with 69, and the shoot-ofT resulted in a win for R. Simmers with 69. J. Pretidergast. J. Dwan, R. Wells, and P. Thomson had to shoot off for the club's sealed trophy, and J. Prendergast won with 67. In the Runanga Miniature Rifle Club's shoot the leading gross scores were; N. Finch 70, H. Scott 70, G. Hilderbrand 69, J. Almond 69, J. Smith 80, M. O'Connell 67, S. Werner 67.

HOIOTIKA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE __—- (•psciai, 10 ran vusss.) HOKITIKA, June 21. There was an attendance of 40 members at the monthly meeting of the Hokitika Women's Institute in the Soldiers' Hall. Seven new members were elected and welcomed by the president. Invitations were accepted for the Arahura and Kumara birthday parties, the arrangements being left to the secretary. A donation of £1 Is was made to the Hokitika junior library committee. Mrs Bassett was chosen to represent Hokitika at the annual Dominion conference to be held at Auckland m July. A most interesting lecture on the literature of China, given by Mr H. L. Michel, was greatly enjoyed. A demonstration of first-aid and bandaging was given by Mrs C. Harrison and knitting hints were given by Mrs I. Mcintosh, both of which were much appreciated. The competition for a knitted garment resulted as follows: Mrs C. Hart 1, Mrs A. Stevenson 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Connors, Cooper Christian, Christiansen, Darby, and Miss N. Chesterman. K oka tali I Women's lastitute The second meeting of the Kokatahi branch of the Women's Institute was held in the public hall. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Miss Meharry as secretary. Miss Ruth Wieblitz was appointed to fill the vacancy. A demonstration on tray making was given by Mesdames Appleton, Collett, and Stevenson (Hokitika), and as several new members had joined the demand was greater than the supply. Including visitors there were 27 present. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Sherriff, i Woolhouse, and Kelly.
