CANTERBURY RESIDENTS HONOURED

Jin Majesty the King has approved >?ie istotie «f a silver medal to be known as "the King's Silver Jubilee Medal" in commemoration of the t.venty-nith anniversary of his accession to the Throne. About 80,000 medals will be struck for issue as a personal souvenir from his Majesty tu persons in the Crown services and cithers in the United Kingdom and in other parts of the Empire. Persons selected for the award will receive the medal on or shortly after May 7. Where it is convenient medals awarded to members of the naval and military services will be distributed on parade on May 6, but the medals will not be worn on that day except by special instruction. Following is a description of the medal, which lias been designed by .Sir William Goscombe John, K.A.:--Observe—Conjoint, busts of their Majesties the Kin;,' and Queen, crowned and robed, looking to the left, with 'he inscription around Oeorge V and Queen Mary, MAY VI, 'JVICMXXXV. He verse—The Royal Cypher G.K.L, surmounted by the Crown with tin: dates May fj. 1910, ; nd May 6, 1935, on either side, the whole within an ornamental border. The medal will be worn suspended by a ring from a ribbon 1 Jin wide with a red centre striae ]in wide and two blue stripes and one white stripe of tqual width on either side. Diameter vt medal: 11 in. The King's Silver Jubilee Medal is ciasii/ied as an official medal, to be v.orn on all occasions on which de»orations and medals are worn, on the i=-ft breast after all Jubilee. Coronation and Durbar medals, which follow'war medals m the order of precedence. Women who have no other decorations or medals will wear the Jubilee Medal on the left shoulder of »oe dress, the ribbon in this case being jii the form of a bow. Women who are already in possession of oiTicial medals worn on a bar may. if they wish, add the Jubilee Medal to the bar instead of wearing it separately on a bow. The other commemorative medal, which has been prepared by the Royal Mint by the King's command for sale "to the'public is not classified as an official medal and may not be v/orn. Jt is also notified that any medals manufactured commercially for sale on thu occasion of the jubilee should not be worn in such a manner that they might be confused with the official medal awarded by his Majesty. The Kins has approved of the issue t/i the Jubilee Medal to many residents of N"W Zealand, and New Zealanders living overseas. The list includes all members of the General Assembly iind most persons occupying high public positions.
