CHILDREN NOT TO PARADE
j JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS IN INVERCARGILL ATTITI UK OF IIIiADMASTKUS' ASSOCIATION •rH»3S 4»#0(.IAT)0» I tLEtilllU.l INVERCARGILL, May 5. The Invcrcargill Headmaster;;' Association has informed the marshal in charge of to-morrow's jubiI lee procession that primary school children of the fourth standard and upwards will not now take part in the parade. The secretary of the association, Mr G. F. Griffiths, stated that he had no comment to make at present, but if the matter were brought up by the Education Board, his association would have a satisfactory and sufficient explanation. There were two sides to the question, he said. The Mayor (Mr John Miller) stated that he was most disappointed, as one of the fundamental objects of the celebrations was to instil the spirit of loyalty in the minds of children. Mr Miller communicated with Mr S. Rice, chairman of the Education Board, and asked Mr Rice to investigate the matter at once, with a view to the children bciny allowed to take pait in the celebrations.
Mr Rice said he would be very distressed if the schools did not take part. It was his intention that the matter be enquired into by the board at its next meeting.
