KAIKOURA COUNTY COUNCIL
+ The final meeting of the Kaikcura County Council, as at present constituted, was held on Friday. Those present were Crs. F. J. Monk (chairman), E. E. Weaver?, D. Boyd, G. E. Parsons, B. J. Macklc, E. H. Eeeles, T. Alexander, J. Boyd, and P. S. Huram. In reply to a lyquest from H. ActonAdams, jt was agreed to pay £4 for work done on the Quail Flat track. The Minister for Lands (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) advised that the question of control of the foreshore between the Kowhai river and the Hapuku river would be considered in an interview with the Under-Secretary j for Lands i The Acting-Prime Minister wrote regretting that he would be unable to visit Kaikoura to give an address on the restarting of operations on the South Island Main Trunk railway from Parnassus to Kaikoura. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that £l5O had been granted toremove the slip cji the Waipapa-Waiau-toa read, and the question of maintenance was one between the tenants and (he council. He stated that when the properties were offered for selection, the slate of the access road was considered when the rent was fixed Mr W. Todhunter had good access to his property on the Waipapa side of the slip. It was decided to forward a copy of the commissioner's letter to Messrs J. Chafley and W. Todhunter. It was agreed to accept the offer of. the Vacuum Oil Company for use of the old wharf shed, at 16s a week. Mr P. engineer, submitted his report covering work done during April. During the month 43 men had been employed under the No. 5 scheme, at the waterworks, domain, Garden of Memories, and the golf course. The report was adopted. Mr T. O'Donnell (electrical engineer) reported an income from the electric department of £l4O 17s Bd, and expenditure £IOO 16s. Mr W. H. Stevens (waterworks engineer) reported on the high pressure water supply, stating that everything was satisfactory. Debentures will be issued for £6500 for the completion of the undertaking. The pay-sheet, general account, £IO7B 6s lid, and electric light account £IOO 2s lOd, were passed for payment. The chairman referred to the retirement of three old councillors—Messrs James Boyd, D. Boyd, and G. E. Parsons. He wished them all good health and happiness. The three councillors thanked the chairman for his remarks. Mr Monk also thanked councillors for their support, the engineer for his co-operation, Mr O'Donnell for carrying out his duties successfully at the power-house, and the staff for their cooperation.
