WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD
An interesting summary of the operations of the Wellington Harbour Board for the last year was given by the Hon. Mark Fagan, M.L.C., at a meeting at Petone, last week. The total income of the board for the year amounted to £ 307,000, and by transferring £34,000 to sinking funds, £22,000 to special funds, plus £IO,OOO surplus over the operations for the year, the board's assets hao been increased by over £06,000. Five per cent, of the wage and salary cms had been restored during the year, and in order to relieve unemployment additional work had been found at repairs and construction for over 100 married men on full time at standard rates of pay. Mr Fagan referred to the sound condition of the board's .superannuation fund. During the year 65 superannuitants, 25 widows, and 11 children had been on the fund, and yet it had increased by over £9OOO during the period. This scheme was started in 1913 and now had funds to its credit amounting to over £229,000. . Mr Fagan said that the Wellington Harbour Board was one of the bestmnnaged focal bodies in the Dominion. Its five Labour members were all sound, practical men, who were pulling their fair share of the weight, and if returned could be depended upon to tro on with the good work.
