UNION ROWING CLUB ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT The annual smoke concert of the Union Rowing Club was held in the club rooms on Saturday night. There
was a good attendance of members and supporters of the club, and the proceedings were in happy vein. Representatives were also present from kindred clubs. Mr W. G. Atack, proposing the toast of the Union Club, said that it had not done as well this season as it had last, due to a combination of circumstances. The club lacked heavy-weight rowers, only two in its present membership being over 12 stone. However, it had won the head-of-the-river competition. The great physical strain that was brought about by Uie arduous training necessary throughout the season from October to February made it ©radically impossible for light-weight men to maintain their form. Mr C. A Cooper replied. Mr Rogers proposed the toast of the Canterbury Rowing Association; and the chairman, Mr F. D. Kesteven, replied. The toast of "Sister Clubs" was also honoured. Prizes were presented to:—C. A. Cooper A McKenzie, T Harris, M Cullen, G. Haydon, W. Corliss, W Cooper, E. Vallance H. M. Jennings C. Smith, J Cullen. S A. Hill. R H Sutherland E R Saxby, J.
