The Anal of the English amateur golf championship was won by John Woollam, who beat Eric Fiddian, 2 up and 1. Fiddian was 3 up on Woollam after the morning round. Woollam, Lunt, Fiddian, and Cra-dock-Hartopp had won in the quarterfinal round, and in the semi-finals Woollam beat Lunt, 5 up and 4, and Fiddian beat Cradock-Hartopp, 4 up and 2. The play in the final was the worst for many years. It was played in a high wind, but even so the figures were surprisingly bad. Fiddian won a three-hole lead In the first round, with 81 to Woollam's 87. Neither was able to keep cut of the rough. Woollam recovered in the second round and turned all square with 38 to Fiddian's 40. He took the lead for the first time at the fourteenth. Miss Rutherford beat Mrs McCarthy, G and 5. Mrs Dodgshun beat Mrs Gibson, 7 and 5. Two Canterbury players, Miss B. Rutherford and Miss V. Fleming, and two Otago players, Mrs Dodgshun and Mrs Carr, will contest the semi-finals. ASHBURTON CLUB Senior and junior bogey matches were played by members of the Ashburton Golf Club on Saturday. The senior event was won by H. N. Lewis with 2 up, while A. Lane headed the junior list being all square. The best cards were as follows:
