SOMERFIELD RECREATION GROUND
FAIR HELD TO AID EQUIPMENT FUND
On Saturday the fund for the equipment of the Somerfield recreation ground was considerably augmented by the proceeds of fair, held in the workshop and grounds of Mr W. ; HWinsor, by the courtesy ol the City Kindling Supply. Mr E. J. Howard MP., official:; declared the proceedings open. He commended the work of Somertield Burgesses Association, and in congratulating the stallholders on their displays spoke of the great amount of work that they had done. The Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan. MP.. j st-id that years ago the children only had the public streets to play in; toI day there were parks within a s' on distance of one another. There was a large crowd presen throughout the day, and the proceed ings were considerably enlivened by musical selections played by the Canterbury Regimental Band. The following were the stallholders; Work, Mesdames E. J. Mulligan, J. F Wilson, R. Jones, and Messrs R. D Carew and Rowe; sweets and produce Mesdames Mi 1 R. D. Carew. Aiken Menzies, and Broughton: cakes and refreshments, Mesda ?s Lee, Brown. Desmond. Waters, Argyle, Hardy, and the Misses Argyle and Messrs Robinson and Gillard; side-shows, Messrs Mullig n w-'"c Her rson. Johnston and Johbins; variety. Mesdames Mazey. Jobbins, Miss H. Aiken, and Messrs Aiken and Argyle; flowers, the Misses Woodbury; weight-guessing,'Mr Kellar. «Mr .H. H. Eddington acted as the honorary secretary for the committees in charge of the arrangements for the fair, and he was assisted by Mr J. W. Woodbury.
