THE NAVY LEAGUE
— ANNUAL REPORT OF LOCAL BRANCH A very full review of the activities of the Canterbury (N.Z.) branch of the Navy League is contained in the thirty-eighth annual report, which will be presented to the annual meeting tomorrow. After noting a net increase of 40 in the membership, the report refers to the great loss suffered through the death of many of the older members. A tribute is paid to the work of Mr A. K. Anderson, who left last year for Sydney after 12 years' service on the general committee. After detailing the observation of St. George's Day, Empire Day, and Nelson Day. the report gives an account of the publicity campaign undertaken to attract attention to the work of the league. As a result of the weekly lectures and the circular letters sent to hundreds of people, 04 new members were enrolled and £57 5s 6d received in subscriptions. The total membership on December 31, 1934, was 512 adult and 136 junior members. A successful year's work by the junior branch, the sea cadets, under Lieutenant-Commander R. C. E. Harding, and the women's section is also recorded. The statement of receipts and payments shows a credit balance of £514 12s 8d on mortgage and in different accounts. Subscriptions received amounted to £203 9s 7d, other receipts, from appeals, donations, and functions conducted by the junior branch and I the women's auxiliary, bringing the total to £3ll 13s lid. The balance brought forward from 1933 was £691 lis Bd.
