HOCKEY.

SENIOR COMPETITION COMMENCED The senior grade competition of the Canterbury Hockey Association was commenced on Saturday last. The weather was ideal and the grounds were fast and in good order. The lower grade competitions will commence on April 27, entries closing on April 23. On Saturday the standard of play was fairly good for the opening matches, and for the most part the games were fast and interesting. Trinity defeated Technical in a game that was more even that the score of five goals to two indicated. Selwyn showed the better stick play in its game against University, which was defeated by three goals to one.
