ROAD SEALING WORK SANCTION GRANTED FOE £12,000 LOAN (SFICIAL TO THE f USS- , NELSON, April 13 The Waimea County Council has received advice from the Local Body Loans Board that sanction has been granted the council to raise a Joan of £12,000 for road sealing. A loan « proposal for that amount will be placed before the ratepayers at the forthcoming election. It is proposed to seal permanently 38 miles of high way from the Richmond borough boundary to the Belgrove, and fr®-. the Appleby bridge to Motueka, and for six miles on the Wakapuaka road *' The total cost of the work wiU be £48,000, the county being required in provide -£12,000. 0 Motucka-Nelson Road A deputation from the Motueka Progress League waited on the county council requesting that representations be made to the Government for a report on the possibility of a shorter road route between Nelson and Motueka, via Rabbit Island and the coastal route. The speakers for the deputation said that a modern highway by the proposed route would reduce the present distance by 10 miles, and also reduce time considerably by cutting out the Moutere Hills. The chairman (Cr. J. Corder), m reply, said that all realised that* the road to Motueka was a comparatively long distance to travel, considering the direct line distance. The council decided to accede to the request. Athletic Club Trophies The following were the winners of the Nelson Athletic Club's trophies for the season:—Cycling Challenge Cup, T. J. Langley; women's handicap trophy, Misses L. Howard and M Rosewarne, equal; women's championship (Retailers' Cup), Miss L. Howard; junior handicap, L. Bishell; junior championship, R.
