SUMNER TRAM SERVICE
TO THE EDITOB 0? THE PHESS. Sir, —It is about time the people of Sumner, woke up to the trams. First, they stopped people from using the passes and now there are no more coupons. I always buy the coupons eight sections and the other day I was told there were no coupons. We buy the coupons and when some of the family go into town earlier I would give them a coupon instead of paying ninepence for a single ticket, and we many times come home earlier. How are we to manage? It is enough when two people come down on Sunday. That costs 2s 6d. Now they cannot afford it. It is no wonder Sumner is going back every day and it will while the trams put the fares up.—Yours, etc., NAYLAND ST. April 12, 1935. [When this letter was " shown to the acting-general manager of the Christchurch Tramway Board (Mr H. E. Jarman), he said that so many complaints had been received about the use of the coupons, which had proved to be unsuitable for the passengers,* more bulky for the condufctors, and more expensive for the board to print, that it was decided to revert to the trip cards. These were transferable, he said, and were not subject to time limitation.]
