Braddock, a veteran New Jersey heavy-weight, has signed a contract with Madison Square Gardens to meet Max Baer in a 15-round title bout, protfebly on June 10. Jim Flynn, aged 55 years, at one time a gi'eat heavy-weight boxer, is dead. He knocked out Jack Dempsey in one round in 1917 and fought many other top-raters. [Flynn, whose real name was Andrew Haymes, had considerable success in the decade before the Great War. Dempsey, when he met Flynn, was just beginning his boxing career.3 NOVICE TOURNAMENT
To-morrow evening novice boxers will be given the opportunity to display their ability, at the Caledonian Hail, when tfye Christchurch Sports Club will open its season with a novice tournament. A bright programme, consisting of 43 bouts, will be staged. Lads Cram Ashburton, Oxford, Hororata, the Bays, Lyttelton, and the various local schools will take part Doors will open punctually at 7 p.m., in order to avoid congestion, and patrons will be well advised to attend early. Day sales may be obtained at Lange's, United Service Buildings. The referees will be Messrs J. D. Hutchison, J. T. Burrows, and H. O. Jefcoate, and the judges, Messrs W. E. Mouldey, A. N. Rutledge, G. Annand, B. Rennell, W. Bowden, and G. Wright.
