* CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE ONE KILLED AND FOUR INJURED <VKS»S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HAMILTON, April 13. A young man was killed and four other motorists were injured in a collision which occurred at the coinei. of Galloway street and Cambridge road shortly after 3 o'clock this afternoon between a heavy motor-truck, laden with drums of petrol, and a touring car returning from a funeral at the Hamilton East cemetery. The victims were:— Killed' 1 A young man named Gillies, the son of a garage proprietor, of that name, j of Taupo, aged 20. Injured Patrick Shivnan, severe cuts, abrasions, and shock. Condition not serious. Edward F. O'Neill, cuts, bruises, and severe shock. Condition not serious. John Shivnan, shock and abrasions. John Murphy, shock and abrasions. The truck, rated at 4i tons, was owned by Gillies Motor Service, of Taupo, and was returning south with a consignment of 2000 gallons of petrol in drums when the accident occurred. The car driver, John Shivnan, was driving from Galloway street. The impact occurred on the crown of the road. The two vehicles met with terrific force. The car was struck squarely on the left-hand side, and thrown high info the air, somersaulting several times before coining to rest on a strip of lawn 20 yards from the point of impact. The motor-truck, of which the young man was the sole occupant, mounted the footpath and overturned. The driver was pinned in the cab and received extensive head injuries. He died before admission to the Waikato Hospital. The four occupants of the car had a remarkable escape from serious injury. The truck was not badly damaged, but the car was a total loss. I THREE MEN HURT CAR SKIDS OFF ROAD (SI'BCIAL TO THE FKE.SS.I TIMARU, April 14. Two men were seriously injured and one received lesser injuries in an accident which occurred about 9.30 last night near Otaio. A car containing Messrs S. H. Sullivan, headmaster of the Waimataitai School, li. Fraser, and F. Cox, and the driver, was driven towards TimKru from Oamaru, where the occupants had attended a football match. At a sharp bend on the road the car skidded, went over a bank, and came to rest against a post, badly damaged. The driver received a broken leg, and Mr Sullivan's head and face were injured. Both men were taken to Miss McArthur's private hospital. Later the driver was able to be removed to his home. Mr Fraser received slight injuries to a leg, but Mr Cox was unhurt. The Tiniroto service car fell ov** - a 100-foot drop when passing a truck on a slippery road, and two of the five passengers were injured and brought to hospital in Gisborne. Mrs R. E. Barton, of Ruakituri, suffered a badly-crushed leg, and Raki Mauku head injuries. The ambulance travelled 140 miles through a storm and torrential rn'in. taking a circuitous route via Wairoa to avoid a road mjide impassable by the rain, and traversing flooded roads and slips over a hill route. BROKEN ARM Warren Anderson, a middle-aged man, of North road, Kaiapoi, slipped while stepping into a motor-car at Kaiapoi last evening and fractured his right arm. He was brought into Christchurch in a private car and admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 12.10 this morning. ~ i THROWN FROM TRAP James Sutherland, a single man aged about 55 years, employed at the Cracroft Wilson estate at Cashmere, received a deep cut in his head and a severe injury to his left hand and minor bruises when the horse he was driving in Heathcote Valley last evening slipped and caused him to be thrown from his trap. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital, but after treatment was discharged. FALL FROM CYCLE W. Ranger, of 208 Westminster street, suffered deep concussion when he fell from his bicycle on Saturday evening. He was conveyed from his home to the Christchurch Public Hospital in a St. John ambulance, and admitted at 7.45.

He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where he received attention, in a St. John ambulance. FOOTBALLER HURT T. O'Grady. of 2(5 Plur.ket street; Spreydon. received injuries to his left knee while playing Rugby League for the Vulcan third grade team against Pirates at the Jerrold street reserve oa Saturday afternoon. He was token to the Christchurch Public Hospital, but after treatment was discharged. He was conveyed to the Christchurch Public Hospital in a St. John ambulance, and it was found necessary to operate oa the hand and amputate one finger. Yesterday afternoon his condition wa» stated to be satisfactory, BASKETBALL I'LAYER INJURED Miss Eiva Gibson, of 25 Trafalgar street, a member of the Rawea basketball team, received a knock on th# head and suffered concussion while playing at Hagley Park on Saturday afternoon, and was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where she was admitted. Her condition is not serious. BODY FOUND (FRUS3 ASSOCIATION TELI'JIAM.i INVERCARGILL, April 14. This morning the body of Hugh MacLean, aged 33, a son of Mr P. H. MacLean. of Waimumu, was found at the foot of a cliff near Arrowtown. It is understood that he had been lying there since Friday night. He was employed in mining work at Deep Creek. The body was taken to Frankton.
