HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL
The Heathcote County Council rr.ct last evening. Cr. C. Flaveil presided and there were also present—Crs. JF. Scott. W. W. ScaiiT, W. Kerr, and A. G. Williams. A resolution passed at a special meeting of the council for 'he conversion of loans was confirmed. The Municipal Electricity Department forwarded a plan of the proposed route for an 11,000-colt cable along the southern footpath of Hills road, St. Martins, and enquired whether the council intended to have this road widened before the cable was laid. It was decided to reply that the council had no intention of widening tire road. The Main Highways Board wrote requesting the classification of any recently declared main highways which might have been vested in the council. The county clerk (Mr J. P. E. Vealc) said that none of the roads in the county had been recently classified as main highways, and the board had been advised of this. Cr. Scarff reported that he had interviewed Mr P. *R. Climie, a member of the Unemployment Board, and the board had been written to through its local office, in application for labour for the erection of a reservoir at Huntsbur.y Hill. The board had been asked also how much it would allow if the work were done by contract, the labour being secured through the local bureau. The summary of building permits for the year showed that permits had been issued foi' 19 dwellings, and for stages, other buildings, alterations ; and additions, to a total value of £16.11' 18s. In the previous year the total value of permits was £19.489.
