DASH TO SERVE WRIT

SEAPLANE AND LAUNCH PASSENGER BY MAHENO SOUGHT (UKITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received February 20, 11.33 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 20. An attempt, to prevent one of the Maheno's passengers from travelling to New Zealand narrowly failed. It is alleged that a motor-car was sold to a Melbourne man by a person who had no right to do so, and a Supreme Court writ was issued to enable the latter to be detained. A solicitor and a sheriff chartered a seaplane and flew from Essendon to Portsea, where a police launch was waiting to convey them to the liner for the purpose of serving the writ. However, the Maheno was too far out to sea by the time Portsea was reached.
