RED CROSS SOCIETY
—* — NEED FOR FUNDS STREET COLLECTION NEXT WEEK Both in peace and in war the Red Cross Society gives valued services to the community; in the improvement of health and the training of men and women in first aid in times of peace, and in aiding the sick and wounded in times of war. The New Zealand Red Cross Society is an integral part of the Red Cross organisation which covers the whole of the civilised world. During the Great War the Red Cross Society in New Zealand, assisted by the extraordinary generosity of the public, did wonderful work in supplying the wants of sick and wounded New Zealanders and other British troops at various base hospitals, and by providing extra comforts for sick and wounded men after their return to New Zealand. During the last three years, former servicemen and their families in necessitous circumstances in the district have been the special care of the Red Cross Society. There are many such men here who are in dire distress, and the present aim of the society is to relieve their suffering as far as possible by providing warm clothing for the winter. . Funds are urgently required to carry out the work of the Canterbury Centre of the society, and on Friday, February 15. a street appeal will be held in the city. Subscriptions and donations may be forwarded to the office of the honorary secretary. 97 Gloucester street, where they will be gratefully received.
