The difficult position arising this year over the proximity of the Easter holidays, Anzac Day, and St. George's Day was referred to at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce last week. It was stated that should bank employees receive the equivalent of St. George's Day, which falls on Easter Tuesday, the banks would in all probability be closed from the afternoon of Thursday, April 18, to the morning of Friday, April 26. It was decided to stress the urgency of this matter with the Associated Chambers of Commerce; asking them to press for the opening of the banks on April 23 and 24. "The holiday system has been reduced to an absolute absurdity," said Mr A. G. Lunn, the chairman, "and ®the Government should be urged to do something to correct the state of affairs."
