Rands, of Sonncrbank, which yielded 1500 sacks (ji' grain, wfiS cut, bagged, and in store in four and a half days. Although two header-harvesters were working simultaneously in the paddock, there were onlv seven men, including Mr Rands and his two sons, engaged in the work. KAIAPOI A very successful and enjoyable hard-up dance was held at the KaiaIjui Pines Beach Social Hall on Saturday evening. The majority of dancers .-mended in fancy costume. Prizes were awarded as follows:—Ladies: Mrs McGarry 1, Mrs Williams 2, Mrs Barnard 3; men: Mr McGarry 1, Mr Williams 2, Mr A. Clark 3. Music was played by Ogilvie's Dance Orchestra and extras by Mrs Winter, Messrs A. Clark, and A. Gray. A Monte Carlo novelty dance was won by Miss V. UjiTell and Mr A. Clark. The Kaiapoi Fire Brigade were tailed out yesterday afternoon to suppress a grass and scrub fire at the r.orth end of Ranfurly street.

HANMER SPRINGS The Hanmer Springs Anglican Ladies' Guild held a meeting in the Church House on Friday evening, Mrs Muir • president) presiding over a large attendance. It was decided to hold a bring and buy sale on Saturday next, February 2. in conjunction with the fire brigade, when a gymkhana will be held in the Hanmer Domain. The stallholders appointed were:—Afternoon lea, Mesdames Mansfield and Boucher, Miss Lahmert, and helpers; fancy, Misses Hodges and Saunders and helpers: cakes. Mesdames Muir and Gilling and helpers; sweets, Mrs Hanmer Atkinson and helpers; produce, Mesdames Farrow and Ashton, and Miss M. Fawoelt; white elephant, Mr and Mrs Hedley Peek and helpers. Many competitions will be held.

WAIAU A very successful function in the Torm of a garden party was held on Saturday afternoon in delightful weather in the lovely grounds of •'Highfield." which had been lent for the day by Mr F. S. Nprthcote. The occasion was Waiau's part of the Amuri parish's farewell to the Rev. E. B. Moore, Anglican vicar, and Mrs Moore, who are leaving for the Auckland district after six years' service in the Amuri parish. There was an attendance of more than 100. The day began by everyone being served with ice-creams, given by Mr Northcote, and later a dainty afternoon tea was provided by church friends and the committee. The afternoon passed pleasantly in wandering round the lovely grounds, and further entertainment was provided by several musical items, community singing, and folkdancing on the front lawn. Mr W. Harold Atkinson, in voicing the regret of all at Mr and Mrs Moore's departure, wished them all success in their new home, and made a presentation of a wallet and a substantial sum in cash. A letter of kindly greeting was received from the Bishop of Nelson, the Rt. Rev. W. G. Hilliard. The Rev. E. B. Moore, in responding, thanked all for their good wishes and kind gift and above all for their extreme loyalty and kindness during the last six years. Three hearty cheers and musical honours were accorded the guests, and Mr F. S. Northcote, for the use of his grounds, and for Mr H. T. Knight, church secretary, who was unable to be present owing to illness, and Mrs Knight. No appointment has so far been made of a successor to the Rev. E. B. Moore, whose duties cease at the end of February.

CHEVIOT. The Knox Presbyterian Ladies' Guild and Church Management Committee, together with a large number of friends;, met at the Presbyterian Hull on Friday evening to say goodbye to Mr and Mrs M. Jackson and 'heir daughter Coral. Mr Jackson has ueen Presbyterian minister in Cheviot for approximately three years, and 'luring that time both he and Mrs Jackson have made many friends. The • veniny look the form of a social, and a pleasant time was spent by those present. Items were given by Misses K. Penhalluriack (recitations), G. Morgan 'pianoforte solo), F. and R. -'•if-Adani <pianoforte duet), N. Fraser, . i;d Mr C. Ogden (piano and violin and the Rev. L. Crampton 'iion'jloguej. Speeches were made by •he Rev. G. Widdup (St. John's An■Jicaii Church. Cheviot), who made ■ iilogistie remarks concerning the departing guests and spoke of the excellent work and the many kind actions done by Mr Jackson in the dis'rict. Other speakers were Messrs K. Hadiiekl and W. Seaton, who read a message from the session clerk (Mr C. S. Gordon). Mr A. M. Hyde, on behalf of the parishioners of the district, presented Mr Jackson with a cheque, and in doing so expressed regret at losing such a popular minister and one who had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of the parish. The members of the Ladies' Guild presented Mrs Jackson with a bronze vase and toasting fork, and serviette rings to Mr and Mrs Jackson and Miss C. Jackson. Mr and Mrs Jackson both replied, thanking the speakers for t&eir kind expressions, and the parishioners for the much-valued presents.

AMBERLEY The Cashmere girl guides' troop, numbering 25, are at present in camp on the *Amberley Domain. Captain Thornton is in charge, and the guides are having a pleasant time. Numerous parents visited the camp on Sunday. A haystack, the property of Mr T. Ford, was destroyed by fire on Friday. Mr S. Oxley, who has been visiting his brother, Mr J. V. Oxley, has returned to Auckland. SPRINGFIELD On Saturday a very pleasant afternoon was spent at the Springfield tennis courts, the occasion being to entertain two popular members of the club who will shortly be married. Miss M. Dorward and Mr R. Hardie were the guests. Beautiful sunshine made tennis most enjoyable for the many members and friends. During the afternoon tea Mrs R. M. D. Johnson, president of the club, made a presentation to the two guests.
