KAIKOURA COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Kaikoura County Council was held recently, when there were present Councillors F. J. Monk (chairman), E. E. Weavers, G. E. Parsons, B. J. Mackle, T. Alexander, J. Boyd, D. Boyd, P. S. Humm, and E. H. Eccles. Subject to plans meeting with the approval of the engineer, the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was granted permission to erect a permanent refreshment booth on the show grounds. : P. M. Kerr was appointed dog tax collector for the county. The Main Highways Board approved of the deferring of road sealing on Beach road until after high-pressure water pipes were installed. It was decided to protest against the lifting of the reservation of two sections in the Cemetery Reserve. The tenders of R. J. W. Miller (Rangiora) for 3000 yards of metalling was accepted at 2s and 2s 3d a cubic yard. Wednesday was fixed as the statutory half-holiday for the county. It was decided to go into the question of the hawking of fruit, and if necessary to frame a by-law. Accounts were passed for payment: General account £1235 9s 9d; electric light account, £lO6 19s 6d: domain account, £3l 19s sd. Mr P. Burgoyne (county engineer) submitted a report covering work done m December. Under the No. 5 scheme 30 men were employed during December on work at the new golf course, Lyell creek, and cleaning up the streets in the township. The report was adopted.
