SUMNER ITEMS
TRAWLING Although trawling after dark was a popular sport for young men in prewar days, it appears to have found little favour during recent years. Lately a few parties have been organised, but during the recent holidays several visitors to Sumner have been rewarded with some good hauls. The weather has certainly been all in favour of trawlers, and the man on the seaward end of the net, usually an unenviable position, has probably had a great deal more pleasure than the rest of the party. Bedcliffs Bowling: Club Additional results in the Redcliffs Bowling Club's competitions are as follows: — Championship Doubles—Beeby and Williams beat Holden and Short; Holden and Short beat Peek and Strong; Beeby and Williams beat Fisher and Ladbrook; Prebble and Prebble beat Niven and Smith; Prebble and Prebble beat Truscott and Hanna. - Handicap Doubles—Prangnell and Stoneman beat Escott and. Ladbrook; Beeby and Holden beat Escott and Ladbrook; Wing and Short beat Prangnell and Stoneman; Truscott and Hanna beat Wing and Short. Sumner Bowling Club Additional results in the Sumner Bowling Club's competitions are as follows: Championship Singles Second round: Graham beat Heslop; Mulholland beat Newburgh; Chambers beat G. Williams; H. Williams beat Lawson. Champion Doubles—Second round: Thomas and'Lawson beat Peek and Forrest; H. Williams and Chambers beat Voice and Heslop. Champion Rinks—Second round: Allen, G. Williams, Thomas, and Lawson beat Wilson, Newburgh, H. Williams, and Barlow; Buxton, Graham, Hampton and Chambers beat Topping, Mulholland, Peek, and Forrest. Handicap Singles—Thomas beat H. Williams; Cheshire beat Peek. Good Templars The Chief Templar, Sister M. Ford, presided over the regular meeting of the Sumner Pride Lodge of Juvenile Good Templars. All members were asked to attend the next meeting, as it would be a special night. It was reported that no word had been received from the Grand Superintendent of Junior Works as to the date of his forthcoming visit.
