Leith, the newest ship in the Royal Navy, which has replaced H.M.S. Veronica on the New Zealand station, arrived yesterday from Akaroa on her first visit to Lyttelton. The sloop will remain in port until after the departure of H.M.A.S. Australia. The Leith arrived at Auckland on November 13 after a three months' voyage from England, calls being made at Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said, Aden, Colombo, Singapore, Dutch East Indies ports, Thursday Island, and Brisbane. At Colombo the sloop was in company, for several days, with H.M.S. Sussex, in which the Duke of Gloucester travelled to Australia. The Leith, which is classed as a convoy sloop, was built at Devonport Dockyard, England, and was launched on September 9, 1933. Her completion occupied nine months, and she was commissioned in July, 1934. The ship's complement totals 104, including Captain O. Bevir and the following six officers: Lieutenant C. H. C. Singleton. Lieutenant C. A. C. Montgomery (navigating officer). SurgeonLieutenant C. D. D. de Labilliere. SubLieutenant N. Scott Elliot, Gunner B. H. Brett, and Warrant-Engineer C. G. Kerswill. None of the officers has been on the New Zealand station before, but several of the men have been here on other Imperial ships. OFFICIAL CALLS MADE Yesterday afternoon the chairman of the Harbour Board. Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., and the secretary of the board, Mr C. H. Clibborn, paid a call on Captain O. Bevir, commander of the Leith. A call was also made by the Mayor of Lyttelton, Mr W. T. Lester, and the Town Clerk, Mr F. Hobbs. KARAMEA EARLY The Karamca, alter loading at Gisborne, was to leave there on Thursday for Waikokopu and Napier. She is to sail from Napier on January 27 for London, via Panama. i WAIPAWA'S SCHEDULE The Waipawa, at present loading at Auckland, is now to leave there on Monday for Napiei and Wellington. She is now due at Wellington on January 25, and is to sail at 5 p.m. on January 28 for London, via Panama. BY THE PORT CHALMERS The Port Chalmers, which leaves Wellington on Monday next for London, via Cape Horn and Dakar, will lake the following passengers: Rev. and Mrs A. C. Whitelaw and infant, Mrs K. McEvilly Jordon, and Mrs E. Hennessy. Dr. E. Shusman will act as ship's surgeon. i ROTORUA REPORTS .
