PROSPECTS FOR CAMPING HOLIDAYS

ROADS IN EXCELLENT ORDER Prospects for people who are spending their Christmas and New Year holidays in camping tours are very good, for the roads are reported to be in excellent condition everywhere. The secretary of the Automobile Association, Canterbury, Mr J. S.. Hawkes, has received reports from Marlborough, the West Coast, and other districts that all roads are in first-class condition, being dry, but with good driving surfaces. Reports from Southland and Otago, where many motorists are going this year, are similar. Already the camping grounds at Goose Bay, Akaroa, and many other popular spots are being occupied, and it seems that space will be at a premium, for the Automobile Association has received an unprecedented number of enquiries. A report received by Mr Hawkes on Saturday from the automobile association of Marlborough states that main and secondary highways throughout Marlborough are in gocd order, the weather being very dry and the road surfaces first class. The main highway from Clarence rivev tc Picton is in excellent order, as is thr.c from Blenheim to Nelson and the secondary highway from Blenheim to the boundary near Tophouse. The PictonHavelock road, via the Grove, is in very good order. It has been graded recently, and a temporary bridge has been erected over the Ngakuta creek,' which obviates a rough crossing The. road over the Mahakipawa hill has a rough surface, but is dry. Mr Hawkes said also tint theßealey road was reported to be in satisfactory order right through. There was no likelihood of any trouble anywhere so long as the weather remaincd fine. A \ AW
