PAYMENT FOR TRANSPORT OF STRETCHER

♦ WOMAN'S REPLY TO COMPLAINT (msss ASSOCIATION TELEGSAM.) DUNEDIN, December 21. A statement was made to-day by the mother of the girl patient referred to in the Wellington Free Ambulance's complaint that, after being transported in its stretcher from Wellington to Dunedin the stretcher was sent back freight collect. It appears that the patient was brought to the Dunedin Hospital on a stretcher which, with the blankets, etc., was left at the hospital, the authorities there returning it to Wellington. The girl's mother said the whole thing was a misunderstanding. When she was told that the free ambulance was providing the facilities it never struck her that the charge was involved. There was no intention to avoid payment.
