Official Opening of Baths The Waimataitai Jubilee Baths in White street were officially opened yesterday afternoon before a large crowd. The chairman of the Jubilee Baths committee, Mr H. H. All had agreed that there could not be a better memorial of such a jubilee. The baths and section had cost about £IOSO, and when the baths were handed to the council the property would be worth between £2OOO and £2300. The cost to the council would be absolutely nil. The Former Pupils' Association had given £240, said Mr Fraser, towards the work, and the North End Association £SO. An appeal by former pupils and dances had produced £75, and a donation of £175 was made by the fair committee. A loan of £4OO by the Borough Council was to be repaid by March. In declaring the baths open, Mr G. Bcnstead, Deputy-Mayor, said that he was proud to realise an ambition he had had for 15 years. He expressed thanks to all who had assisted in the project and stressed the responsibility of the committee to find the £4OO borrowed, assuring those present that the committee would honour its obligations. Lawrence presided over the fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the South Canterbury Cricket Association.
