THE CENTENARY
ACTUAL ANNIVERSARY ON MONDAY PREPARATIONS IN VICTORIA (UNITED PKE3S ASSOCIATION—BI BLECTBIO TELIGEAPH —COPTEIGHT.I (Received November 16, 7.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 16. Beginning with the ecclesiastical pageantry of a street procession of 11 Bishops in scarlet and purple, and robed clergy, the concluding service of the Australian Anglican Assembly was held at St. Paul's Cathedral to-day. The occasion was made notable by the presentation by Canon Barry of a piece of stone from Westminster Abbey, which he asked should be let into the wall of St. Paul's as a memorial to this century. The token from the Abbey Church, which had been nearly 1000 years standing, would bear witness to the consecration of a national life nurtured by Christianity, he said. Though the Centenary celebrations have been in progress for many weeks, Monday will be the real Centenary day, when 100 years ago the Henty family landed at Portland. Celebrations have been in progress there this week. Many events of local importance will culminate on Monday in a great pageant in the presence of the Duke of Gloucester. Rehearsals for the pageant were held to-day, even to driving bullocks through the streets to accustom them to the commotion which is expected to prevail on Monday. To usher in Victoria's new century a ring of bonfires girdling the state will be lit on Monday, and there will be displays of fireworks in every town.
