LEPERS AT MAKOGAI
TO TH* IDITO* Or THE PRESS. Sir—On behalf of the lepers at Makogai I wish to thank most warmly all kind donors for the very kind gifts so generously given this year. At the same time, I would like to emphasise my appreciation to your paper for giving such great publicity to this appeal. Without the assistance of the newspapers very little indeed could be done. I also wish to express my sincere thanks to Dv. T. Fletcher Telford and his staff, also to the two local broadcasting stations for their generous assistance. Up to date I have received £lB7 2s lid in cash, and about 20 cases of goods. This appeal is closing to-morrow, November 17, and for about a week after this date we shall be busily engaged packing up goods and shipping them. Any money received after November 24 will be used in purchasing goods to be sent by a later steamer. We have communicated with Dr. C. J. Austin, the medical superintendent of Makogai, as to the gifts to be purchased with the money, and which would be most suitable and appreciated by his patients. In a few days' time I hope to publish the final amount received and acknowledgments of same.—Yours, etc., P. J. TWOMEY. November 16, 1934j
