FILM MYSTERY
LIFE OF CECIL RHODES LONDON, November 15. The mystery surrounding the abandonment of work on the film of the life of Cecil Rhodes, the South African pioneer, has been deepened by General Jan Smuts's denial of interference. He says that the film has his entire approval. [When it was announced that the project to film Rhodes's life story had been abandoned, the excuse given was that General Smuts and others had made representations regarding the film. It was considered that it might have a deleterious effect on the relations between the races in South Africa.]
