A hearty vote of thanks was ; accorded Mrs Will for the afternoon's ! entertainment. Boy Scoots' Committee ■At a meeting of the committee o£ ifhe Rangiora Boy Scouts, Mr E. K. ('Banfield presided. ■ Arrangements were discussed for a gouts' camp, to be held in January, *,and the Scoutmaster (Mr S. Southgate) {■and members of the committee were Appointed to carry out an inspection fof the proposed site. '. It was reported that a concert to. aid ■the funds of the scouts would be f given within the next fortnight, in the ;Rangiora hall, by Bloy's, Banjo Band, from Christchurch. It was decided to procure several .-tents to be used for camping purposes. Salvation Army A number of the members of the KaiaDoi branch of the Home League of the Salvation Army visited Rangiora yesterday afternoon, and conducted the ordinary meeting of the Rangiora branch of the league. At the conclusion of the meeting they were entertained at afternoon tea. B.S.A. Social Another of a series of socials conducted by the Rangiora branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association was held in the association's rooms. Prizes were won by Mrs C. O'Neill, Mrs B. The Rangiora Club, which has a bye In the A grade competition; to-morrow, will hold a Yankee tournament. The club will play the Leeston Club, at Rangiora, during the week-end.

p*~»~ Children's Library The Children's Library, which has recently been established by the Rangiora Borough Council, will be opened for the first time to-day. The membership is 120, and a number of membership cards are yet to be received. The children will be limited to certain days and hours of the week in which to change their books.

Shopping Week

Approximately £35 has been promised by the business community of Rangiora who were, canvassed yesterday by Messrs C. J. Smith and J. M. Fraser, to, ascertain what financial support would be accorded the proposal to hold a shopping week next month. A deputation will wait upon the Borough Council to-night to ascertain what-support it is prepared to give the project. A meeting of business men will also be held on Monday night.

ROTHERHAM There was a good attendance of members at the last meeting for this year of the Rotherham Ladies' Presbyterian Guild. The meeting was held at the residence of the president, Mrs E. W. Skinner. It was decided to give a Christmas tree, and high tea to the children of the Rotherham district at the Rotherham Hall on December 18. A meeting of those interested in the raising of funds for the Rotherham Domain was held in the Rotherham Hall recently. It was decided to inaugurate a cob, pony, and hack sports. A committee was appointed, and at a later meeting it was decided to hold the sports on Saturday, December 29. The first event will start at 11 a.m. sharp. A programme of 18 horse, events, four foot races, and a children's judging competition was drawn up. Five cups and 20 trophies were promised, and were allocated to the various events. The Rotherham Presbyterian Ladies' Guild were granted the right to run luncheon, afternoon tea, soft drinks, and ice cream booths at the sports. Mr and Mrs W. A. Thomas (Sumner) lire the guests of Mrs R. Skinner. Mrs Athya (Wellington) is the guest «f Mrs E. B. Moore, the vicarage.

CHEVIOT Regimental Sergeant-Major Glanville, from the Canterbury -Yeomanry Cavalry Regiment, paid a visit to the Cheviot district, and enrolled, uniformed, and equipped 16 recruits. The sergeant-major reported well on tne type of recruit offering. It is propable that two week-end courses will be held in the district during February and March. The department is taking great care in arranging these parades to avoid interfering with local industries, particularly farm labour. It is hoped to recruit a full troop of 27 men at an early date. Three additional troops have been allowed tp_ toe attached to the regiment, and this troop will form an additional one lor A squadron of the C.Y.C. regiment. j HORNBY A meeting of the committee of the Hornby Amateur Swimming Club was held in the Hornby School, Mr H. D. Moran, the president, presiding. Final arrangements were made and officials appointed for the opening carnival tomorrow. It was decided that no charge for admission be made on opening day, and that an invitation be extended to all residents to be present ( Prizes will be given for the children's events only. It •was decided to make an effort to enter one women's, and two men's teamd in the grade Swimming competitions. Mr T. O'Elynn was elected to the committee to fill the vacancy .caused by the resignation of Mr Eric A motion, moved and seconded by the ladies present, that hours reserved exclusively for women toe cancelled, was carried. of Plunket funds. Progressive euchre was played, the winner being Mrs Davis and Mr Manson, Mrs Howe and Mr Drake. After supper an amusing competition was held, the winner being prake. . Mr A.
