The question of securing a suitable site for a commercial airport has been, discussed in various quarters in the city of Nelson at times during recent months, with no finality being reached, but the Nelson Harbour Board, after a preliminary letter recently submitted to the Minister for Marine Hon. Cock, chairman of the provincial board of directors of Cook Strait Airways, Ltd., and Mr H. Daw- I son, the chief postmaster, were pres- i ent to place information at the disposal of the board. *\m After a short discussion it was resolved that a deputation consisting of Messrs Uould and Haiiey should proceed to Wellington to wait upon the Minister, requesting the permission of the Marine Department to use a portion of the board's reserve as an, aerodrome. Visitors by Aeroplane The Fox Moth/ ZK-ADH, piloted by Mr J. C. Mercer, landed at the Nelson Aero Club's aerodrome at Stoke yesterday at 4.5 p.m. The passengers were Messrs T. Gough, of Christchurch, and F. N. Thompson, of Wellington. Mr Mercer has done much quick travelling this week. Leaving Christchurch at 3.30 p.m. on Mon-' day, Wellington was reached in three hours 20 minutes. On Tuesday, a flight was made to Auckland, and back to Falmerston North yesterday afternoon. The flight was continued in the afternoon from Palmerston North to Nelson, via Wellington. This.after--noon it was proposed to return to Christchurch, via Wellington. * Rotary Club "Maori Customs" was the subject of an address given to the Rotary Club by Rotarian W. Dawson at the weekty luncheon to-day, when Rotarian President W. Armstrong was in the chain Hospital Board , At the Nelson Hospital Board meeting yesterday Mr Everett suggested an investigation of the conditions and salaries of the whole staff, and moved that a committee, consisting of the members of the town committee, re? port on the matter. It was not fair, said Mr Everett, if two men were doing the same work and not getting the same pay. Mr Fitzgerald seconded the motion, Mr McConchie said that while butterfat was at 4&d per lb he was absolutely opposed to increasing expenses, which might lead to an. increase in the rates. A suggestion of the secretary that he should draw up a report to be dealt with by a committee of the whole board was adopted, on ' the motion of the chairman.
