PENINSULA SHOW

—*— DECREASE IN ENTRIES With a marked decline in entries in the horse and junior sections, the annual Show of the Peninsula Horse Show and Pastoral Association, held in Mr M. Dunn's paddock at Duvauchelle yesterday, was a little disappointing. These two sections, which, with cattle, are the biggest in the show, each had 50 fewer entries than last year. The cattle section showed a slight increase, and all the other sections were fairly well patronised. As a measure of compensation for the decrease in numbers the general quality of the exhibits was rather higher than usual. Some useful horses were seen out, and the milch cow sections, especially the section for Shorthorn or Shorthorn cross cows, drew some quality beasts. Perhaps the best classes on the ground were those for ponies. Not only were they well filled, but the ponies, almost without exception, would hc.ve had a good chance of doing well in some of the larger shows. K. Chapman's Kittlewinkle, which won the championship, was a good type.

The cattle classes were confined to comparatively few exhibitors, but competition was always keen. The champion bull was the two-year-old Jersey, Hawksbury Gold, belonging to J. R. White, and a milch cow entered by the same owner in the class for Jersey or Jersey cross cows, was champion. The bull did not get a prize in his class.

There were only three classes in sheep, and the first prize in each was taken by V. Craw. The sections for school children, domestic produce, farmers' produce, fruit and vegetables, flowers, and women's institute work, were very attractively set out, and attracted a great deal of attention.
