ATTEMPT TO ROB STORE
THIEF DISTURBED AT LYNDHURST A thief attempting to rob the Lyndhurst store on Sunday evening was caught through the vigilance of two piissers-by, Mr Errol Stewart and his sister. When the man was disturbed, it is reported, he had carried a considerable quantity of goods from the store to a car which was waiting outside.
Mr Stewart and his sister passed the store between 9 and 10 o'clock in the evening, and noticed a car round the corner. About 11 o'clock they returned to post a letter, as the post office was in the store, and noticed a stranger leaving the premises. They called two neighbours and the store manager, Mr A Polkinghorne, and his son, and while the store was completely surrounded Mr Polkinghorne went inside and accosted the robber with a gun which one of the neighbours had brought with him. The man was arrested by Constable Robertson, of Methven, who brought him to Chirstchurch yesterday after-j noon. I
