JUSTICES OF THE PEACE
MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Canterbury council of the Justices of the Peace Association was held last night. There were present: Messrs A. H. Hobbs (in the chair), H. Holland, MP., A. Williams, F. B. Creswell, George M. Telfer, J. J. Hurley, G. E. Franklin, H. F. Herbert, and the registrar, Mr J. W. Baty. An apology for absence was received from Mr G. Maginness. It was reported that the recent address given by the senior magistrate, Mr H. A. Young, S.M., had been very successful, and it was decided to send a litter of appreciation to Mr .Young. It is intended to hold further instructive evenings in the new year. The secretary reported that a request for a list of local justices of the peace, made on behalf of a Sydenham resident, had been complied with. It was agreed to hold a church parade in St. Paul's Church on Sunday, December 16, at 7 p.m., and a picnic at Stewart's Gully on Saturday, January 19, 1935. The chairman remarked that in view r of the many people seeking advice and the services of the justices of the peace a room should be made available for them in the old Provincial "Council buildings.
