The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G W Forbes) returned from Wellington yesterday morning by the Maori. The Hon. J. Bitchener, Minister for Public Works, was a passenger from Wellington by the Maori yesterday morning. Surgeon-Commander Roger Buddie 0.8. E., Royal Navy, has been appointed to H.M.S. Philomel. Mr W. V. Hamilton, secretary of the Calder Mackay Company, has left for the North Island on a business trip. Mr J. J. Corry, of Blenheim, who spent last week in Christchurch, was a passenger for Wellington by Saturday night's steamer express. Mr H. H. Sterling, chairman of the Railways Board, was a passenger from Wellington on Saturday morning.

Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon left on Saturday night for Wellington en route to Fiji, where he will spend a short holiday.

Mr W. McHardy Forman, managing director of General Motors (N.Z.) Ltd., arrived on Saturday morning from Wellington. Mr Sidney Williamson, the wellknown musician, is seriously ill at his home. It may be some time before he will be able to resume teaching.

Messrs R. M. D. Johnson, H. A. Millar J. A. Milliken, C. E. Saundercock, and J. S. Tolerton have been appointed a domain board to control the Kowai Pass Domain, says a notice in the Gazette. The Bishop of Aotearoa (the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett) will be visiting Temuka and the Arowhenua pa this week, arriving on Friday. He will be the guest of the vicar, the Rev. C. H. Mountfort, during his stay.

Members of the Legislative Council who returned from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday morning were: the Hon. J. A. Hanan, the Hon. W. Hayward, the Hon. D. Buddo, the Hon. Sir James Allen, and the Hon. T. F. O'Byrne. The Otago branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants has appointed Messrs E. R. Grace, G. S. Kirby, W. J. Mclnnes, and L. M. Satterthwaite delegates to represent the branch at the conference of the society, to be held at Auckland in February. Mr P. A. de la Perrelle, M.P., who has been ill for two months, attended the executive meeting of the Southland Education Board on Friday. In extending a welcome to Mr Perrelle the chairman, Mr S. Rice, said he was pleased that he was able to resume some of his public duties.

Members of Parliament who arrived in the South Island by the steamer express on Saturday morning included Mrs E. R. McCombs, Messrs P. C. Webb, D. McDougall, E. J. Howard, J. Connolly, F. Jones, and C. Carr. Those who arrived yesterday morning included Messrs H. Holland, W. A. Bodkin, P. Fraser, and A. E. Ansell.

An appreciation of the work of Colonel John Studholme for the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club was made by Mr W. Turner, senior vice-president, at a field and inspection day at the club's egg-laying competition grounds, Papanui, on Saturday. Mr Turner said Colonel Studholme had been a great supporter of the club and had established what was, in his opinion, one of the best tests in the competition.

Mr David Yaffa, proprietor of the "Newspaper News" (Sydney) and the Yaffa Syndicate, has booked to leave for the United States of America on December 15 next on business connected with his organisation. Mr Yaffa will proceed to England from New York, and return the same way. Mr Yaffa is well known in newspaper circles in New Zealand, having attended the annual Press Conferences in recent years.

Mr F. K. Tucker, of the Valuation Department, who has been appointed officer-in-charge at Christchurch, arrived from the south on Saturday night. On Friday afternoon he was met by the Invercargili staff and valuers when a presentation was made to him. All joined in expressing regret at his departure, but at the same time congratulated him on his well-merited promotion. Mr Tucker also received presentations from the Waihopai School Committee and the Invercargili Dental Clinic Committee, to both of which organisations he has given valuable service as secretary. The list of Australia's representatives to attend the fifth Imperial Press Conference to be held in South Africa in February next is as follows: Mr A. H. Stuart, general manager, the "Sydney Morning Herald," who has been chosen to lead the delegation; Mr Delamore McCay, editor-in-chief, Associated Newspapers, Sydney; Mr Hugh Grant Adam, associate editor, the "Herald," Melbourne; Mr F. Lloyd j Dumas, managing editor, the "Advertiser," Adelaide; Mr Firmin McKinnon, associate editor, the "Cour-ier-Mail" Brisbane; Mr C. P. Smith, managing editor, the "West Australian," Perth; and Senator R. D. Elliot, chairman and owner of controlling interest in "Sunraysia Daily." Mildura.

Mr George Patterson has announced his resignation from the position of joint managing director of Catts-Patterson Company, Ltd., Sydney, Melbourne, and New Zealand. It is understood that Mr Patterson has acquired a controlling interest in Griffin, Shave Pty., Ltd. He will remain with headquarters in Sydney. Mr Patterson entered into partnership with Mr Norman Catts about 15 years ago, shortly after Mr Patterson returned from the Great War. Under their joint control the firm of Catts-Patterson, which later was formed into a limited liability company, made rapid progress and became one of the largest advertising agencies in the British Empire outside London handling many of the most import' ant advertising appropriations fcr Australia and New Zealand.
