THE TEES DISPUTE

. SETTLEMENT EXPECTED It is stated that there is a reasonable prospect that the dispute which has caused the steamer Tees to be held up at Lyttelton for the last week will be settled to-day, and that the vessel will sail for the Chatham Islands this afternoon or evening. The dispute concerned the rate of payment to seamen for handling cargo, the men claiming that they should be paid the difference between seamen's rates of pay and that of waterside workers. The Tees was to have sailed for the islands last Monday with 90 tons of cargo and 10 passengers.
