WEST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL

FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF STATUS The Minister for Education, the Hon, R. Masters, has advised the West Christchurch school committee that his consideration of the raising of the school to the status of a high school will be deferred after a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board on November 23. The school committee at its last meeting decided to send a telegram to the Minister requesting his decision in reply to the petition by 778 parents and guardians and the deputation from the committee, asking that the status of the school be raised to that of a high school. The secretary of the committee, Mr W. Shackle, has received from the Minister the following telegram in reply: "Your telegram to hand. I am advised that the Canterbury Education Board is to further discuss the case of West Christchurch at a meeting and in the meantime consideration of your application is held in abeyance."

The chairman of the Canterbury Education B->ard, Mr C. S. Thompson, said last evening that ho did not know what form the discussion would take at the board's meeting on November 23.
