WANGANUI WINS IN SYDNEY COMFORTABLE VICTORY IN KERR CUP ABBOTT SECOND IN SCULLS (united tress association— by electbic teleobal'ii— copyright.) (Received November 11, 8.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 11. At the regatta yesterday, Wanganui Union very comfortably won the Kerr Cup for senior eights over 2000 metres. The trophy, which was specially presented for the race, becomes the property of the winners. Taking the lead after the first 200 yards, the visitors rapidly drew away and at the half-mile there was clear water between them and the other crews. The veteran Healey did not have to increase his rate of stroking at any stage to give the crew a three lengths victory. There was a splendid race between Mosman, Haberfield, Sydney, and New South Wales Police for the minor places, Mosman finishing best for second, with Sydney a canvas away third. In the 2000 metres sculls both the New Zealanders, Smith and Abbott, contented themselves with minor places in the heats to qualify for the final. Because of indisposition Smith was unable to compete in the final, which was won by a length and a half by Turner, of New South Wales Police, from Abbott. » Abbott was last in the field of five with a quarter of a mile to go, but he finished strongly, sculling well. His showing against Turner, who has been the most outstanding sculler in Australia since Bobbie Pearce, was really good. C. Pearce, of Balmain, a cousin of Bobbie Pearce, was third in the 2000 metres sculls, a length behind Abbott. Moss, who was injured in Melbourne, did not row in the Wanganui Union eight, being replaced by Luxford.
