WANGANUI NO. 2 STRAINS j STOMACH MUSCLES MELBOURNE, November 6. A. G. Moss, who rowed No. 2 in the Wanganui crew on Saturday, suffered strained stomach muscles in the semifinal. He rowed in the final but collapsed and was sent to hospital. He will be unable to visit Sydney with the crew. MEETING OF CANTKUHLRY ASSOCIATION The Canterbury Rowing Association met last evening. Mr F. D. Kestcven presided and also present were Messrs D. Lee, W. 11. Evans, E. Vclvin, C. A. Stiles, A. T. Evan.*. C. R. I-lervey, L. C. Byers, F. 11. Brown. W. G. Atack, W. L. Whitlington, It. Sutherland. F. L. Booth, W. Miles, and A. A. Sutherland, and It. J. Hobbs (hon. secretary). The Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. J. A. Young, advised that the association's request for a share in an art union could not be considered as no grants were being made to sports bodies now. If it was decided to assist .sports bodies in the future, the association's application would not be lost sight of. The Wellington Regatta Club advised 1 hat the tentative date for the Wellington regatta was January 10. Mr D. Lee was appointed to the boat committee. By eight votes to seven it was agreed that the course for the interclub eights at Stewart's Gully on December 8 should be over a mile. A motion that the race should be over a mile and a half was defeated. The following officials for the race were appointed:—Starters, Messrs H. H. Berry and A. T. Evans; umpires. Messrs F. IT. Brown and E. Velvin: judges, Messrs D. Lee, R. E. Nightingale, and R. J. Hobbs; course committee, Messrs Nightingale. Velvin, and Brown; selection comm'ttee. Messrs F. Brcttell. Brown, and G. 11. Hobbs; coach, Mr Brown. " The transport of boats was left to the secretary and chairman. It was agreed to install a public address system at: Stewart's Gully for the race and to ask the Broadcasting Board to permit a talk on a night before the race. Sumner-RedclifTs and Cure were permitted to enter a combined crew. The date for the beginning oi training was fixed at November 17, allowing the crews about three weeks. Congratulations were extended to the Canterbury Club on reaching its seventy-fifth anniversary. The chairman remarked that it would be very fitting if the club won the D.C.L. Cup and the head-of-the-river banner. It was reported that the first series in the head-of-the-river competition, the sculling races, would be rowed on November 24. Messrs L. C. Byers, D. IS. G. Gunn, and Brettell were apI pointed timekeepers.
