♦ AURORA SAILING CLUB INTERESTING RAC'INd (aricuL TO TH* IT.IS;.* NELSON 7 , November 6. The Aurora Sailing Club held the second of a series of races arranged for this season. The prize is a club pennant for the winner in each class, and points for the J. J. Cook Shield. A strong north-west wind was blowing and consequently some fast times were put up, the June securing fastest with 43 minutes for the whole course. The field for the B class race was rather disappointing, only three boats entering. Sea Mew finished first, followed soon after by Moana and Eve]vn. These two boats had a keen fight for second place, Moana eventually winning by seven seconds. Entries for the A class race were far more encouraging, and 10 boats competed. There were no close finishes, Rodney winning easily from Queen Mab, who was followed by Cappy Ricks. Sailing is fast becoming a popular pastime in Nelson. Three boats were entered on Saturday, and it is hoped there will be more entries for future fortnightly races. Rainfall at Mapua Mapua, the centre of the central fruit-growing district, recorded a rainfall for October of 6.71 inches, and for the 10 months of the year 35.81 inches have fallen. Memorial Sundial Mention was made in the report oI the principal of Nelson Boys* College at last evening's meeting of the Comcil of Governors of Nelson Colleges, that through the efforts of several masters, a sundial had been erected at the college, its foundation being one of the concrete -battlements of the scriptorium which was built by old boys as a war memorial. Personal A large number of friends met last evening to say good-bye to Mr and Mn W. M. Smith, who are leaving Nelson. Mr Smith, who is going into business on his own account in Auckland, has for some time past been secretary cf the Nelson Motor-Cycle Club. Last week members of the club presented him with a wristlet watch as an expression of gratitude for what he had done for the club.
