NEW RECRUITING CAMPAIGN
SCHEME OF CANTERBURY REGIMENT An appeal issued by headquarters of the Ist Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, states that a campaign is at present in progress to bring the numbers of the battalion up to full peace time strength. It is hoped that this campaign, which will run for three months, will result in a considerable increase in the interest in the regiment. Under the volunteer system, it is stated, terms of enlistment are designed so that the recruit meets with the utmost consideration. In addition to free boots and uniform, each territorial receives a small sum annually to recompense him for out of pocket expenses. Men who join up with the regiment are given every opportunity to take part in the phases of military work which interest them most, and should a man desire to leave on accorint of study or health, no obstacle is placed in his way. It is the ideal of the regiment to recapture the spirit of the old volunteer days, when military work was treated as a hobby.
